The Heartbeat of the Mother Tree
'Heartbeat of the Forest' is an impactful installation that stands at approximately 6 feet tall and 2 feet wide. I have specifically chosen to hang this piece using French cleats for optimal display. This work is a striking three-dimensional visual representation of an oscillogram captured from the mother tree in the forest. I chose to make this work to encourage human connection with nature and for each person viewing it to feel a sense of responsibility for the natural world around us. In the image, I successfully captured a heartbeat from a tree using specialized equipment that detected sounds beneath the ground near its roots. This led to a clear visual representation of the electrical system, which I translated by arranging found sticks in size order. The result was a sound wave that accurately matched the image I recorded.
